HOLYFIELD-BOTHA PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Evander Holyfield: “I’m happy to have the opportunity to fight in Las Vegas again. Everything that’s happened to me has been here – in 1984 I had to win Saturday and Sunday to make the Olympic team. In 1990, 1993, 1996 and 2000 I won the heavyweight title here. Las Vegas has been the place that’s given me the opportunity to be the person I am. I’m thankful for Botha giving me an opportunity to fight for a title again. My goal has simply been to be undisputed heavyweight champion. I’m a person – I think my attitude is good when people tell me I can’t do something -- I’m driven by what people say I can’t do to prove I can. I’m not disappointed by decisions. I felt I beat Valuev. I won’t quit seeking to do my best and Saturday night you’ll see me give my all. If not enough, I’ll make adjustments.

“To be perfect is to reach my goal. I thought I did it in 1999 against Lennox (Lewis). Here, in 2010, and it’s going to be a great fight. I’m telling you, Saturday night, I’ll look better than I used to be.”

Frans Botha: “I’m defending my title against one of the greatest legends of all-time. This will make my resume perfect. I’ve fought some of the best and Evander is one of the best. Saturday night, I’m prepared for this. Evander had talent and experience. I’m getting in there knowing it’s going to be a tough fight. ‘The White Buffalo’ is roaming the prairie. I’m going to end your career, make you retire. The Buffalo is charging.

“I’m very grateful to be here. Me and Evander would have fought 10 years ago. I was No. 1 and he was champion. It didn’t work out. You’re a legend. You’ve fought some of the greatest, but I have to stop that. Saturday night you’re going to see a helluva fight.”

Henry Namauu: “I’m going to take advantage of what has been given to me. I’m not much for words; I just show up to fight.”

Rayford Johnson: “I’m guaranteeing Saturday night that I’ll win. My losses are losses, but I’m coming to fight and win.”

Arthur Williams: “I’m honored to be on a card with Evander Holyfield and Frans Botha. It’s a big card. I’m excited and ready to fight. My last fight I had a tragedy in my family. No excuse, I thought the referee stopped the fight prematurely, and I was winning. I’m ready to get it on. When all the smoke and dust clear, I’ll be standing.”

Quotes from Bobby Gunn Workout

Hackensack P.A.L., Hackensack, NJ

 From Bobby Gunn:

“I took this fight because I wanted to fight the best. Tomasz Adamek is the best. The man is a champion inside and outside the ring. I would have taken this fight for any amount of money they gave me. This is not about financial profit. This is about my chance to show everyone that I can be the best.”

“None of the Top 10 would fight Tomasz Adamek. I call them ‘Nancy Boys or ‘Fancy Pants’, they’re like prima donnas. What’s the sense of being ranked if you don’t want to fight the best in the world? When you are Top 10 you have to fight all the best. I want to fight Adamek, he is the best and I want to beat the best”

How has the training been going?

“Are you kidding me? I am going all out for this fight. I am training to the best of my ability and I have the greatest team you can have. I have Kendall Holt’s trainer, “Terrific” Aroz Gist, I’m telling you the best! We have been studying the tapes. With cardio I went through the roof. I’m training really hard, harder than I ever have before. I am in great shape and I am ready.”

“To tell the truth, I’m kind of sick of Tomasz Adamek. I mean I go to sleep with Tomasz Adamek, I eat with Tomasz Adamek, I train with Tomasz Adamek. You know what I mean? It’s all I think about. I just want to fight him and get it over with.”

What do you say to all the people claiming this is not a good fight?

“No one should pass judgment until they see the fight.” “They say styles make fights. Remember the Briggs – Adamek fight? That was a great fight. I think I am like Paul Briggs.” “I think the fans are in for another great fight on July 11th.”

“My dad would tell me, ‘There are a ton of mediocre fighters out there, but often when you fight a superior fighter, the fighter who was perceived as mediocre will rise to the occasion and surprise everyone.” “I am going to fight like a Kamikaze pilot. – I’ve got nothing to lose! That makes me a dangerous fighter.”

“In boxing things can change on the turn of a dime. All it takes is one punch. I am going to throw that punch.”

“I learned something in Polish for this fight. ‘Ten pas bedzie moj’. That means the belt is mine to take!”

From David Feldman, Bobby Gunn’s Promoter:

“Tomasz will think July 11th is his birthday because he will have a lot of surprises…but no gifts!”

NYC’s BROADWAY BOXING RETURNS!!

***Exciting Main Event is World-Rated Light Heavyweight Shaun George vs. Jaffa Ballogou.  Plus “Two “O’s” Must Go!” as Undefeated Prospects Hamer and Del Valle face Undefeated Opponents.  Also appearing are prospects Jackson-Benson and Rosinsky***

New York (February 10) - DiBella Entertainment’s Broadway Boxing series makes its anticipated 2009 debut, on Wednesday, February 25 at the intimate BB King Blues Club & Grill, located in New York City’s Times Square.

The main event features the WBC # 6 rated light heavyweight and Brooklyn
s own Shaun George taking on former IBF Continental African cruiserweight titlist Jaffa “African Assassin” Ballogou.

“This coming April marks the five-year anniversary of Broadway Boxing and what a great way to start off 2009 then with a high-stakes light heavyweight main event between two world-class, New York-based fighters in Shaun George and Jaffa Ballogou. Shaun is one of boxing’s most avoided men…his anyone...anytime...anywhere attitude is why he’s willing to risk his world rankings against Ballogou, a more experienced contender, who can end every fight with one punch, commented DBE president Lou DiBella.

A winner of four straight, Shaun George (17-2-2, 8 KOs) put the boxing world on notice this past May with a brilliant, one-sided TKO victory over former two-time heavyweight champion Chris Byrd, in a nationally televised bout seen on ESPN2. Since his unexpected dramatic triumph over Byrd, few fighters have shown interest in challenging Brooklyns George – currently rated WBC #6, IBF #10 and WBA #11 at 175 lbs.

Fighting out of New York City, Ballogou (46-7, 40 KOs) is a southpaw of Tongan descent, who has held the IBF Continental African 200 lbs. belt as well as the WBC International super middleweight title during a stellar 20 year professional career.

Double “0’s” must go, in two separate and exciting match-ups.  Undefeated local Tor Hamer (3-0, 3 KOs) will fight also undefeated Chris Hancock (5-0, 3 KO’s) of Detroit, Michigan.  Hamer is a Penn State graduate and 2008s number-one rated amateur super heavyweight.  He is also a National and two-time NY Golden Gloves Champion.  Hamer is coming off a knock-out win on the Berto-Collazo undercard in Biloxi, Mississippi last month.  In another exciting match-up of two undefeated prospects, is a Junior Lightweight bout that is sure to entertain in another case of “Someone’s “0” must Go!”  Former 3 Time NY Golden Gloves Champ Louis Del Valle (4-0, 3 KO’s) of Newburgh, NY and Tommy Atencio (3-0, 2 KO’s) of Detroit, MI will both do all they can to protect their unblemished records as of yet.

Also appearing is middleweight Philip Jackson-Benson (2-0, 2 KO’s), a two-time NY Golden Gloves champion.  A talented prospect, Benson just TKO’d Bryant Smith last week in front of the home crowd in Brooklyn.

Rounding out the talent filled “Broadway Boxing” under card are four-time NY Golden Gloves titlist and Queens own undefeated light heavyweight Will Rosinsky (4-0, 4 KOs); and New Jersey’s Bedarin Toma of Hashbrouck Heights, making his pro debut at heavyweight against Joseph Rabotte (2-4, 2 KO’s) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Tickets for Broadway Boxing priced at $150 (ringside tables, ringside seats), $100 (floor tables, floor seats, stage seats), $55 (general admission) are currently on sale. They are available by calling DiBella Entertainment at (212) 947-2577. For more information on Broadway Boxing, please visit DiBella entertainment on the web at www.dbe1.com.

BB King Blues Club & Grill is located at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill, 237 West 42 Street in New York City.

2nd Annual John Bray
Free Youth Boxing Clinic!

January 28, 2009-The John Bray Boxing Foundation is holding the 2nd Annual John Bray Free Youth Boxing Clinic in an effort to continue to help the community in preventing and combating violence while promoting discipline and academic success among school-age students by interfacing with local community leaders as well as professional boxers.  After holding his inaugural boxing clinic last year, John Bray was so impressed by its success that he vowed to make it an annual event.  Although it is considered a boxing clinic, these young kids will also listen to inspirational speakers; learn about nutrition, life skills and attitude development!

This year, the John Bray Boxing Foundation has teamed up with the LAPD Foothill Jeopardy Program, which is a program within the LAPD’s juvenile division that targets children "at risk" of becoming involved in gang activity and offers them a variety of educational and physical projects; from tutoring to boxing.  Both non-profits have arranged this Free Youth Boxing Clinic because of the issues with kids that are of crucial importance to the community.   Children and young adults face many temptations everyday, whether it be drugs, gangs or peer pressure.  The John Bray Boxing Foundation and Foothill Jeopardy Program want to provide these promising young men and women with an alternative where they can feel at home and escape the pressures they have to deal with on a daily basis.

Everyone of all ages are welcome.  We have arranged special guest appearances by Former World Champions Gabriel and Rafael Ruelas, Former Contender TV Series Star and current WBC CABOFE Middleweight Champion Miguel Espino, Female Bantamweight Sensation Kaliesha “Wild Wild” West and trainer Juan West, Flyweight Contender and 2000 Olympian Jose Navarro, Heavyweight Contender Juan Carlos Gomez, Super Middleweight Contender Fernando Zuniga, Light Middleweight Contender Jose Celaya, Former Middleweight Contender Alex “the Bronx Bomber” Ramos, Former Heavyweight Contender and Trainer Justin Fortune, Former Welterweight Contender Randy Shields, Former Heavyweight Contender Macka Foley, Former Heavyweight Contender Jeremy Williams and Carlos “The Cutman” Vargas from the Reality TV Series Contender.

The 2nd Annual John Bray Free Youth Boxing Clinic is scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2009 from 10:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m.  The event will take place at the LAPD Foothill Jeopardy Facility located at 11844 Glenoaks Boulevard in San Fernando, California.

We would like to graciously thank the following sponsors for making this event a reality: Everlast Worldwide Inc., Glaceau Vitamin Water, Convicted Artists.com, Visual Impact Stunt Equipment Company and the International Stunt Association.

Andrade feels Golden

BEIJING (July 29, 2008) – Reigning AIBA World welterweight champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade is prospecting for gold in China. The 20-year-old from Providence isn’t there to visit the The Great Wall, purchase a Ming vase in the Temple of Heaven, picnic in Tian’anmen Square, or cruise down the Yangtze River.

Andrade is Team USA’s most promising hope to medal in the Olympic boxing competition. “It’s crazy,” he said right before leaving Colorado Springs training camp, “but everything’s good. I’m relaxed, stayed out of the public eye, and have remained focused on winning a gold medal. I’m not happy just being in The Olympics, or even winning a silver or bronze medal; I’m going for gold.”

His gold medal performance at this year’s AIBA World Championships catapulted him into the No. 1 ranking in the world at 152-pounds. Andrade’s toughest competition figures to come from Asian champion Bakhyt Sarsekbayev (Kazakhstan), World Championships silver medalist Non Boonjumnong (Thailand), as well as bronze medalists Adem Kilicci (Turkey) and Hmati Silamu (China), European champion Andrey Balnov (Russia), and of course, Cuba’s representative, Carlos Banteur.

The Olympic draw doesn’t matter to him because Demetrious believes he’s the best 152-pound amateur in the world. He defeated Boonjumnong and Kilicci in the World Championships. “Nobody they put in front of me can beat me,” a confident Andrade offered. “Only the judges can beat me and I’m not going to let them. I’m going to take the other fighters and judges out of it by beating my opponents so badly that they can’t take a decision away from me. I’ll stay on the outside, use my tough defense, and not allow any cheap shots. I’ve been fighting internationally for awhile and I’ve been robbed a few times. But I can’t let anybody beat me in The Olympics.

“I’d prefer to get the tougher guys out early – second or third round – and have one less contender for the medal rounds. I really don’t know or care who I draw. Everybody else is fighting for second place.”
Proud to represent the red, white and blue, “Boo Boo” has dreamed about boxing in the Olympics since he first laced-up a pair of gloves. He is a two-time U.S. National Championships winner and double National Golden Gloves champion who cruised through the U.S. Boxing Trials preceding the World Championships.

“It feels good to be called an ambassador,” Andrade reflected. “I used to be a little kid dreaming of being in the Olympics and now I’m talking to kids with the same dream. I tell them to never let anybody say no to their dreams. It feels great to represent the United States, Rhode Island, Providence, family and friends.

“I haven’t worried about anything. Inside the ring is another environment with just you and your opponent. I’ve been focusing on the physical part of boxing. My (co-coaches) dad (Paul Andrade) and Dave Keefe have helped me all of the other stuff.

Impacted wisdom teeth and the best amateur boxers in the world couldn’t stop Demetrious at the World Championships. Now, he’s digging deep for gold in China.

Andrade boxes out of the 401 Boxing Club in Cranston (RI). Go on line to
www.boobooboxing.com for more information about Demetrious “Boo Boo” Andrade.

ARTHUR ABRAHAM & EDISON MIRANDA

CAMP QUOTES

TRUFAN JUNE 17, 2008

Their first fight played out like a Hollywood script: rife with drama, incredible two-way exchanges, a broken jaw, multiple head butts, low blows and controversy.

On Saturday, June 21, undefeated middleweight champion Arthur Abraham, and the explosive, hard-hitting Edison Miranda will co-star in the emotionally charged sequel, live on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING at 9 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast). Abraham won the first fight on a hotly disputed unanimous decision in a scintillating affair on September 23, 2006.  The 12-round rematch will be contested at a catch weight of 166 pounds.

Abraham and Miranda took time from their workouts Tuesday to offer some insights on how training camp has been, what they thought of their first fight and their views on the rematch.

ARTHUR ABRAHAM

“It is an advantage for me that I already know Miranda. I know how I will fight against him and that is why I know how to prepare. It gives me even more security.

“The fight weight is definitely good for me. I feel even stronger. Making weight can be a real torture but I do not have to do it this time.

“I know that I have to be more active from the first bell on. It is also important to stay concentrated. Miranda is a guy who makes you pay for mistakes. But I will not give him a chance to do so. I will win.

“In the first meeting the broken jaw kept me from showing my true potential. I will make up for that on June 21.”

EDISON MIRANDA

“Abraham is making the biggest mistake of his life.  The last time, I broke his jaw when I was weak and struggling to make 160 pounds.  At super middleweight I'm so strong it's scary. I'd be surprised if he makes it five rounds.

“The last fight was the worst night of my career because I had the title stolen from me.  Now we're on a level playing field and the only thing determining the outcome of this fight will be my fists.  And I will get my redemption on Saturday.

“He's a good fighter and I respect him as a fighter. But I will not hesitate to destroy him when we're in the ring.  This is a man's business and I don't know if he belongs here anymore.

“Abraham made me wait almost two years for my rematch and on Saturday I will make him pay for every minute I waited.

“I've had my best camp ever.  I'm on weight and I'm just climbing the walls waiting for the first bell to ring.  After I send Arthur Abraham back home I want to settle another score with Kelly Pavlik.  Joe Calzaghe won't fight him, but I will, and it won't be the same story the second time around.”
