NOT A CLOUD TO BE SEEN

March 3, 2010 Coral Gables, FL                           -Ron Ross

Lou DiBella flew down from New York  to host the opening press conference, held at Randazzo’s Italian Restaurant in Coral Gables, for his stellar HBO card scheduled for April 10th at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, FL.  Expecting South Florida’s typical warm, pleasant weather the media event was held in a makeshift outdoor gallery in front of Randazzo’s.. Instead, it was a bit chilly and windy even though there wasn’t a Cloud to be seen – although a Cloud was originally expected – Tavoris Cloud, that is. The IBF light heavyweight champion was scheduled to defend his title against Glen Johnson in the co-feature, sharing top billing with the Andre Berto-Carlos Quintana WBC welterweight title bout. However, Cloud had just signed a promotional contract with Don King and strained his hamstring. One may have nothing to do with the other. Then again, it may. Unfortunately, when the fight with Johnson is re-scheduled poor Mr. King may just have to promote the show all by himself.

In place of the Cloud-Johnson fight, what sets up to be a “better than the original” match is the WBA super bantamweight champion Celestino Caballero (33-2, 23 KOs) of Panama defending his crown against Daud Cino Yordan (25-0,19 KOs) of Indonesia .

Much of the proceeds of the show will be donated to Andre Berto’s “Fighting For Haiti” campaign. The welterweight champ’s heroic efforts have been tireless  in his   personal struggle to do all that he can to ease the pain and suffering of his homeland and relatives, some of who were lost in the devastating earthquake.

Also on the card is sensational 2-time Cuban Olympic Bantamweight Champion, Guillermo Rigondeaux, with more than 400 amateur bouts  and a 5-0 record as a professional.
